Marilyn F. Smith
Smith, Marilyn F. – 64, of Parrsboro, Cumberland County passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late James Cassidy and Florence (Deal) Llewellyn. Marilyn was a graduate of Parrsboro Regional High School and later graduated from Dalhousie University (Henson College) with a diploma in Municipal Administration. Marilyn was very active throughout her community her entire life. She was instrumental in the building of the Parrsboro Board of Trade Building in Parrsboro, where she was employed in promoting tourism for the town from 1959 to 1993. From 1993 until most recently, she was Education Officer at the Fundy Geological Museum. She served on Parrsboro Town Council from 1977 until 1993, active on numerous committees, as well as volunteering her time to several organizations and boards. She served with the Parrsboro and Area Industrial Commission and was on the committee for the establishment of the Fundy Geological Museum. Marilyn was Chairwoman of the Rockhound Round-Up from 1969 to 1995 and served as President of the Parrsboro Shore Historical Society for 12 years. Marilyn received numerous awards and recognitions of merit for her contribution to commerce, tourism and heritage preservation of Parrsboro. She is survived by her husband, Harry; a daughter, Marina Forbes (Stephen), Lakelands; three grandchildren, Daniel (Carmen), Calgary; April (Kevin), Moncton; Stephen, Parrsboro; great grandchildren, Mackinley Leblanc, Madison Leblanc. She is predeceased by a son, Stephen; a brother, Gary; step-father, Charles Llewellyn. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday) at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at St. George’s Anglican Church, Parrsboro, Rev. Mark Pretty officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Education Fund of Fundy Geological Museum, Parrsboro. |
