Atkinson, Doris E. - Age 85, of West Brook passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. She was the daughter of the late Ed and Ada Blanche (Doncaster) Brown. Doris grew up in Lakelands, moving to West Brook with her husband Glenn, after their marriage in 1958. Doris had two great loves, her family and teaching. She would often help Glenn in the summer at Glenn's County Market by baking pies and bread daily. During the rest of the year, she taught Grade 1 at Parrsboro Regional Elementary School, and her teaching career spanned more than 35 years. After retirement, she still missed the classroom, so she would supply teach whenever the opportunity arose. Doris also insisted on feeding anyone who walked in the door of her home, no one ever left hungry. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Glenn in 2010. She is survived by her sister, Doreen Webber (Ronnie), Lower Sackville; sons, Joe (Carissa), West Brook; Mark (Pauline), Riverview, NB; grandchildren, Ryan, Megan and Graham; brothers-in-law, Courtney, Kelowna, BC; Carson, Chipman, NB; as well, many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 12-2 pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Parrsboro Baptist Church, where funeral service will follow at 2 pm, Rev. Emmanuel Mutale officiating. Burial in the West Brook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parrsboro Baptist Church, the West Brook Memorial Gardens Cemetery, SCCCC Recreation Program or the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia.
