Terrance C. Welsh
'Terry'
1946 - 2020

Welsh, Terrance C. ‘Terry’ - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Terry on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Parrsboro, he was the eldest of 12 siblings of the late Ronald and Bella (Bennett) Welsh. Terry left Parrsboro in his early teenage years and later pursued a career as a sailor. He was employed with many companies over the years, sailing across the Atlantic. He was later employed with Upper Lake Shipping (now Algoma Central), where he sailed the Great Lakes as a wheelsman on numerous vessels. In the 1990s, he joined the Canadian Navigator where he became instant friends with Norman Brayon and Lance Farris. The three sailed together for over a decade, always making sure they made time to watch Coronation Street together. In the early 2000’s, Terry transferred to the Canadian Olympic, until his retirement in 2011. He returned home to the 'Hollow' (his paradise in Parrsboro) that summer and never looked back. Terry was a proud and long-time member of the Canadian Merchant Navy Veterans Association Inc. A resident of Frog Hollow (Parrsboro) for 31 years, he spent his retirement doing the things he loved to do, tinkering in his 'shop', maintaining his home and yard, cooking, spending time with his little dogs, and most recently, YouTube. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his canine 'little buddy' Magoo. Terry is survived by his daughter, Terri-Ann ‘Sissy’ (Jody); son, Matthew; grandchildren, Ava, Dilyn and Mason; siblings, Ronnie, Michelle, Gerald, Roger, Joanne, Kenny, Sherri, Chris, Wayne, Jack and Marlene; numerous nieces and nephews. Terry also leaves behind his beloved canine, Maggie; special life-long friends, Dawn & Lance; special friends and neighbors, Sandra & Garnett. Terry had a devoted team supporting him through his battle for the past five months, his daughter Terri-Ann, her husband Jody, brother Jack and his wife Anna. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Nova Scotia Cancer Care Team, and the staff of ICU at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at a later date in the 'Hollow'. Donations may be made to the Lillian Albon Animal Shelter in Amherst.
Terry was an avid storyteller and enjoyed a good laugh. The memories he
instilled in others will never be forgotten. Rest easy sailor, your watch is
over.
