David C. Fillmore

  Fillmore, David C. – Age 77, of Spencer’s Island passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in Montreal, Quebec, he was a son of the late Dr. Eric and Jean (Giberson) Fillmore (Montreal), grandson of the late Dr. Millard J Fillmore and wife Jessie (Crowell) Fillmore (Advocate Harbour), grandson of the late Perley Giberson and Nellie (Green) Giberson (Stellarton), and great grandson of the late Dr. Edward Fillmore and wife Nellie (Amos) Fillmore (Spencer’s Island). A talented pilot, David loved to fly and worked as a bush pilot in his early years in Northern Ontario. He was also trained as a mechanic and landscaper, skills he put to use building a property maintenance business upon his return to Nova Scotia, becoming known up and down the Parrsboro shore for his excellent care of numerous cemeteries and private properties. He had his mother’s love of music and sang regularly at open mike and karaoke gatherings from Parrsboro to Moncton. He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Turgeon, Lakewood Ranch, Florida; grandchildren Sydney, Kyle, and Chloe; a brother, Peter (Lynn), Ottawa; a sister Heather, Kitchener; and numerous cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son Jonathon who passed away at age twelve. The family expresses deep and heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of the South Cumberland Community Care Centre in Parrsboro, for the excellent care he received there. They also thank neighbors, friends and family in the area for many kindnesses over the years. In consideration of COVID-19 restrictions on travel and gatherings, and in keeping with David’s wishes, only private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Advocate Cemetery or to a charity of choice.
