Nancy M. Gilroy

Gilroy, Nancy M. - It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother Nancy M. Gilroy (Wood) on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at the age of 75. Born in Parrsboro, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Effie (Hatfield) Wood. She spent her childhood over the River with her siblings whom she adored. In her young adult years working for Ron & Sally, when she met her soulmate Lester. They got married, moved to Amherst and started their family. One more move took them to their forever home, only a hop skip and a jump from where she grew up and they continued to grow their family. Nancy had an exceptional work ethic, she worked for many years at Oxford Frozen Foods. Anyone that had the pleasure of coming into contact with her during those years will remark at the wonderful person she was. No other job came close to that of a grandmother, her grandkids can attest that their “Nanny” was their world and they were hers.

Nancy enjoyed knitting anything from baby blankets to socks, a good cup of tea, whipping up a batch of bread or fudge and being with the ones she loved. Anything she baked or knitted drew anyone in from, miles around. Her love of animals brought many creatures into her home, rabbits and birds on occasion, but none like her furry companions Pooh Bear and Gypsy. While Gypsy will miss her immensely, she is taking care of Lester and Pooh Bear I’m sure happily greeted her on the other side.

She is survived by her husband, Lester; sons, Kevin (Charlene), Parrsboro; Robbie, Amherst; daughters, Tena Redmond (Jeff), Parrsboro; Patti Lowe, Amherst; grandchildren, Cassie, Blaze, Josie, Shelby, Regan, Avery, Lacey and Matt; great-grandchildren, Ava, Hudson, Delaney, Eva, Adley, Shae and Griffin; sisters, Sylvia, Mary; a brother, David. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Roy, George, Arden, Reginald, Murray, Croyden, Owen and Donnie. In keeping with Nancy’s wishes, a ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter, Amherst.
