Clarke, Merle V. - 79, of New Salem, Cumberland County died Wednesday, August 25, 1999 at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born at New Salem, he was the son of the late Charles and Susan (Lunn) Clarke. He worked in the forestry and trucking industries for many years. He was a past member of the local school and hospital boards. He was an active member of his community. He is survived by three daughters, Dianne Fillmore, and her husband, Arden, Elmsdale; Linda McLellan, and her husband, Harold, Beaverbank; Janet Corbin, Langley, B.C.; one son, Chris, and his wife, Anna Marie, Parrsboro; one sister, Marine Henley, Brampton, Ont.; two brothers, Arnold, New Salem; Edgar, Advocate; 7 granchildren; 1 great grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Clara Spicer; brothers, Aldon, Raymond. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today (Friday) at the Advocate United Church, where funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Dan Gunn officiating. Burial in the Advocate Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro.
